Police issue warning about legal high use

Thames Valley Police have issued a warning about the use of legal highs after three men were admitted to hospital after they were found in a caravan in Oxfordshire.

Thames Valley Police were called out at 5.35pm on Sunday to investigate the suspected use of legal high drugs in Goosey, near Wantage. The police were advised that the three men inside the caravan had taken the highly dangerous drugs, which are legally available for sale in many high street shops. The police arrested the three men; however, instead of taking them to the police station, the men were rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The police have been unable to confirm which drug the men had ingested. Two of the men were declared fit to be discharged and the third remains in the care of the hospital and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

DCI Andy Bird of Thames Valley Police said: “We are currently investigating the exact nature of what these young people took, but want to take this opportunity to once again warn people about the dangers of ‘legal highs’. Just because something is currently legal, it does not mean it is safe.”

The narcotics in legal highs produce similar effects to those experienced by cocaine and ecstasy use; however, unlike these class A drugs, they are legal to buy provided that they do not claim to be suitable for human consumption.
