Palcohol is approved in America

A form of powdered alcohol called Palcohol has been approved for sale in America by the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. The new product allows an alcoholic drink similar to rum or vodka to be created simply by mixing the powder with water.

Palcohol was invented by Mark Phillips, who is a self-proclaimed active person who goes hiking, biking, camping, kayaking and enjoys a post-activity drink but does not enjoy having to carry bottles of alcohol with him; this is why he invented a powdered form of alcohol.

There are concerns that this new invention will cause some problems. It is a gimmicky idea at the moment and will undoubtedly appeal to the younger generation, which will want to make up cocktails at parties or while out with friends. Palcohol’s marketing strategy appears to mostly provide drinkers with new ways to consume alcohol. One of its slogans is ‘Take your Pal wherever you go’.

The Daily Star has reported ‘outrage’ at the approval of Palcohol, with a headline that reads: “Snort it or pop it on your omelette: outrage as powdered alcohol gets approval”. Palcohol has already advised that snorting it is a very dangerous option and warned people against this; in fact, it says that it has deliberately been created as a thick powder that cannot be snorted.

Like it or not, it appears that this new form of alcohol will soon be on shelves everywhere and although its inventor urges everybody to use it responsibly, there will certainly be people who use it as a way to smuggle alcohol into places to avoid having to purchase it.
